Hi Jim;

What a mark of unparalleled respect for Jaguar Forums, that a topic worn so close to the hearts of so many, can be aired here without any "rock throwing". That is why, despite sadness and my lousy maths (Sorry, human physiology and nuclear medicine are my forte) I believe from yours Jim, Norri, and all the other conciliatory voices to this thread that hope rather than despair, will prevail ... whatever the outcome.

Despite my old Scots ancestry, coming from a young country like ours, the thrill of walking along Hadrian's Wall, noting the hand carved "name stones" or "counting stones" along its length and reclaimed fort foundations ... had us wondering at the fact that the Romans, after all that effort, gave up and went home some 1,800 years ago!

Then we got off the plane back in Australia, and it dawned on us that Australia is awakening to a realization that our ancient but still present Aboriginal culture extends back at least 40,000 years. Time, nurtured by empathy and mutual respect, has a way of expanding our horizons.

All of us wish all of Scotland a brave and bonny future,

Ken

More seriously, I worry about the lies and deliberate misrepresentations told by the main Yes people (Alex Salmond & Nicola Sturgeon) such as that "we'll use the pound" (today on the Today programme on Radio 4).

To do that, it would have to be a kind of shadowing the pound ("sterlingisation"), which would be an economic pain in the proverbial. I've no care either way if that's what Scots want (Scots should be allowed to decide, I reckon), but I feel they ought to know that's what it would be and what it would involve rather than being, well let's say "misled".

I hope it's not a No that's nearly a Yes, because then there will be a push in 5 or so years for yet another vote.

I almost wish for a Yes vote, except I wouldn't wish Salmond & Sturgeon on anyone. I'm unimpressed with Cameron, Miliband et al, but unimpressed is not an appropriate word regarding the SNP leaders!

Default History in the making?

So fellas, today's the day ... and you're still abed! We're burnin' daylight over here ... and you chaps are snoring.

Hey Jim, absolutely loved your Scotland v Romans vid ... but can't think of more than about 5000 people I want to forward it to (LOL). After your follow up vid on border controls, I'm glad we still have our Scottish Passports purchased back many years ago from a friendly Highlands gift shoppe.

I mentioned our land up in Glen Coe as part of the huge regional reforestation project there ... on behalf of all landowner members, the estate managers conducted a "mock poll" this week and the results were surprising. confirming that the Scots are firmly "YES" as are the vast majority of non-UK members - but facing an almost equally numerous "NO" from elsewhere in UK. This suggests that in the real deal later today, the Scots have the ears and hearts of the world, but alas, not of their English neighbours. Opposition from the rest of UK will be huge. Will it be narrowly defeated?

History in the making, perhaps.

Cheers,
Ken

The question is, "Should Scotland be an independent country", I my heart I would like to say yes, but do I want to live in an independent Scotland ruled by a closet communist, NO way, I would rather be governed by ***** educated at Eaton.

Long way to go, but the No vote seems to be holding up as far as we can see.

Probably Orkney next to give results.

Really waiting on Glasgow, Edinburgh, North & South Lanarkshire as the big constituences coming in, Glasgow with around 500,00 as a good indicator.

A great turnout with 90% plus in most areas, some smaller regions returning 100% of the ballot!!

And a No from Orkney but no surprise there, we need to wait for the big guns!

Seems like they got the fire out quick in Dundee. :-)

4 out of 32 declared

Orkney, Shetland, Western Isles and Clackmanannshire
Total so far
No 49,535
Yes 36,097

As stated, these are small Councils, still waiting on the big ones that may make a difference, but 4 out of 32 for the No campaign so far

See below for approx numbers for each returning Council

Or you could say 4 out of 4

The Yes pundits are starting to sound a bit disheartened.
