XK8 electrical problems

I have a 2001 4.0 XK8. Recently it has just started to develop a new electrical fault. No lights on dash except seat belt warning. Engine starts but it won't go into gear. Fault sometimes clears and starts self diagnostics. Then runs and goes into gear. It has had an intermittent restricted performance issue which on a test shows a knock sensor issue. Usually can be cleared by using injector cleaner. It now is stuck in this mode when I can get it to illuminate dashboard. Can anyone help please?

I've only just seen your technical question posted in UK Region forum. It would have been read and received replies promptly from members around the World with the same model if you had posted in XK8/XKR forum.

The first step in troubleshooting has to be to put a code reader on the vehicle. Without knowing stored or pending DTC's, it's all speculation or guesswork.
