Hey folks. I'm a potential noob...looking at a 2006 xk8 convertible that has been sitting for a few years.

Trying to figure out if it's worth it....to buy a project

Marc, it really depends on what sort of price you can get it for and how much you like working on cars. A little bit of time in the XK forum may help you decide if it will be worth it or not. If you can get it for under say $5000 and have the ability to fix things. Then I would say to go for it. It will be a nice for relatively little money. Granted, may have a lot of sweat equity in it though. But, that will also help you figure out its quirks.

the first number he threw out was $5000 My current hobby is building and sailing RC boats to I have th epaitence to build and design things from scratch. and my first teardown and rebuidl was a 66 mustang when i was 18. It was great father son project.

all of the stuff I worked on has been pre 1994. These newer cars with miles of wiring are a different animal altogether which is why I have some hesitation. and the other hesitation because parts for European cars are usually pretty expensive.

Yes I'm sure there will be an exorbitant amount of sweat equity.

Fisrt thing is to try to get a new batty and see if the beast fires up before I decide to buy it... if it runs then everything else is "childs play" so to speak...

Marc, wish you luck. Me, the wiring is the easy part of the car. It is the tranny that I fear. Never have had a chance to really tear into one and get to learn the workings of it. May want to look into getting your hands on a second battery (say out of a second car that you have) and take that with you to use that long enough to get the car started up. That way the cost of seeing if the car works is minimal. From there, see what you have and make a decision.

Well, not to leave you all hanging...

Was supposed to to have a second meeting with the seller. When I arrived, The seller was not there and the car was gone. So I'm assuming that he found another buyer, or got it towed to a shop.

I left to messages and sent an email so far no response.

So I guess it was not meant to be...

Just wanted to thank you folks for the support and great forum.

Marc, there are lots of other cars out there. Keep looking. I am sure you will find something to fit you like a glove.
