My brother was in Brussels last week and had a few hours to kill so he went to a local car museum. He found these two incredible jags....including the most beautiful e-type I have ever seen (would love to add either one to my garage but have a feeling they are WAY beyond my means...LOL)!

Not much info on either car but the e-type was noted as being "lightweight".

Yes, the car on the left is indeed one of 12 light weight E-Type coupes made in 1963 & 64. They used an aluminum block version of the production 3.8 with about 300 hp and were fitted with Lucas Fuel Injection and a ZF 5 speed gearbox. The cars were purpose built for racing and were moderately successful in private hands; however, none ever succeeded at Le Mans like their predecessors.

The car on the right is a D-Type. They were built between 1954 & 1957 and won Le Mans 3 times (1955, 56 & 57). About 18 "factory" racers were built and approximately 53 "customer" cars. They were also the basis of the 16 XK-SS's until the fire at Browns Lane in 1957 put an end to the program.

There are some modern day reproduction or kit cars built to resemble both of these designs and without seeing them up close, it's hard to tell form the pictures if they are "real." Being in a museum in Brussels I would assume they are.

BTW, if you want to pick a real "lightweight" up at auction it will probably run you $4 - $5 million.

 

Here are a couple of cars at the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Both were, as I recall, listed as "E-Type Lightweights". Beautiful cars!
