Default Another DFW owner

Ladies and Gentlemen

I’ve owned a couple of older Jaguars in the past, but they have all been non running projects that I never got around to doing anything with.

As of yesterday, I’m the proud owner of a 1975 XJ12C. I bought the car unseen, but took to liking the owner who seemed to know what he was talking about and described the car well.

It’s a project car and I expect that it will need work. I’m not shy about doing most of the work myself, I own 12 Mercedes Benz from the 70’s and 80’s and the only way that I can own then is by maintaining them by my self.

I would like to connect with Jaguar enthusiasts in the DFW area and share some experiences. Good Jaguar independents, where to get spare parts, where do you guys and gals go for a beer?

I’d also love to hear from other XJ owners as I’m sure that I’m going to have a pile of questions once I take delivery of this car.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

With best regards

Al

Welcome Al,

Motorcarman is a bit of a drive for you but well worth it in my opinion.
Check out Mafioso's posts over in the S-type section, too.

Quite a stable you've got there.

Thanks, I'm actually trying very hard to thin the herd but you know how that goes. Being raised in England, I've always had a soft spot for Jaguars. I've owned an SIII XJ6 with a lump and a MKII. Both were basket cases that I sold before I ever got around to driving.

I was on a Mercedes forum where the age old W126 vs Jaguar XJ conversation came up which got me looking at Jags again.

I'm going to look at another XJ coupe tomorrow, but this one has a small block. It's stunning looking car so it's highly likely that i'll end up with it too .

I look forward to catching up with members on future events.

Welcome to the forum. Always nice to increase our DFW membership. Please do take the time to share your Jag experiences with us. How many Jag project cars can you handle at one time? Where do you keep them?

Right now, the only Jag that I own is in TN with the previous owner while I try to arrange shipping. I have 12 or so Mercedes Benz that I tinker with. The runners and drivers are at the house and I also rent two 1000 SQ ft warehouse units where I store the not so tidy examples that require work. This keeps my neighbors happy, my girlfriend sane and allows me to get away from the house on the evenings and weekends to play

All of the MB's that I own are from the 70's and 80's era so they're pretty simple in design, as I now know them pretty well, I can get work done on them pretty quickly. I suspect that progress on the Jaguars will be much slower as i'm now learning a new mark.

Of course, given the amount of cars that I have, I need to be able to do the bulk of the work by myself or else this would not be a hobby for me.

I'd like to get down to 5 or 6 at some point as it's a little hard to keep so many running and in good shape.

Hey welcome aboard....I live in the mid-cities area but travel thru Carrollton and almost all other cities regularly when I'm in town. I'm going to be in the uptown area on Thursday if you or anyone else is interested in meeting up for that beer.

I'm still here, but I sold all but one of my Jaguars. The red chevy powered Euro XJ5.3C was sold on eBay to a fellow that took the train up from Mexico City to get it and the XJ12L went to a fellow locally who had intentions of restomoding it. This leaves me the propane powered XJ12C.

It's ugly as all sin and currently out of propane, but I just had the whole braking system rebuilt and the power steering rack replaced so it's coming along, but not quite road ready.

What differences do you notice with the propane verses petrol?

It drives fine but finding a place to fill it at reasonable cost is a huge pain. I plan on putting it back at some point.

I'm in Pilot Point. It's up at Lake Ray Roberts. Northeast of Denton.

I'm still here too. Just super busy with work so I don't get a chance to get out much.
