wheel size for Jaguar XJS???
Hi everybody, long time no login....so here I am again.
I am buying a set of custom wheels for my 1988 Jaguar XJS and there is several different sizes that can be used on my car, but I need some help because I don't want to get wheels that are too large.
These custom wheels come in 15, 16, 17, and 18 inch.
So I was wondering if it would be okay to run 17 inch 55 series? Or should I stick to 16 inch with 60 series. There is even the option of using 18 inch with a 45 series tire but I am thinking they would be a "rough" ride. What do you guys use on your XJS that suits the car the best as well as clearance issues?
thanks guys for your help. Donna

I have seen 18"s with a 245/45/18, and 17 plenty of 17's like moto mentioned.
I'm in the same boat trying to decide what I want to go with on mine...seems like 17's offer the least hassle from what I can dig up.
I really want 18's but the wheel I am looking at does not come in an 18 in the finish I want so I will most likely stick to a 17" rim.

I've seen XJSs with 17x8 XJR wheels so at least that much is OK.
Not that anyone asked my opinion but I'd be careful about going any bigger on an XJS, even if they would fit. For some reason really big wheels just conflict with the styling of the car.
Entirely subjective, of course.
Cheers

Looks pretty good, IMHO. The XJR wheel is a very conservative style...and easy to clean, too :-)
IMHO, you don't want your wheels to be the sole focal point of the car. If a person looks at a car and the first thing...or only thing... they say is "Oh my GOD, look at those wheels" then you've gone to far.

No problem, I spent Saturday looking at hundreds of pictures trying to decide on a wheel I liked... and discovering some wheels I thought I really liked looked awful once I found a picture of them on an XJ-S.
Myself I prefer a little more of a modern looking wheel, but then again my rebuild was never aimed at looking classic or all original. I settled on some 2002 XK8 wheels...but I still have my mint stock wheels if I ever want to give off the all original vibe.

I have had four XK8 wheels/tyres combination fitted to my 1983 V12 xjs for last ten years or so, no real problems apart from tyre cost, the fronts may well foul the inner wing liners when on full lock, slow turns and reversing swings.I guess my old 85 XJS was the exception. It ran woderfully and it was I thought, well built. It is a cruiser, good for long trips.

SBC conversion XJS Wheels FItment Tires Stance Gap
Hey Guys, I have a 1983 Coupe. I purchased BMW wheels . They fit.
and they are also 19s staggered. the front are 235/35/19 (8.5)inches wide
and the rears i have not bought tires yet because i would like to know how wide i can go..they are 19x9.5
any ideas ..not opinions. Obviously this is a stance and style thing… I'm not looking for saving gas or a meaty tire.. Just want the wide fat look. but I'm unfamiliar with clearance or offsets
i believe the wheels are 05+++++
