Hi all, I just bought a used 2004 Xtype last night. It has 32000 miles. I'm hearing a buzzing noise similar to the sound a florescent lightbulb would make. What is this? Can it be made to stop?

 

i read somewhere in one the forums, that the x-type "likes" to loosen the sealing along the side window.
when this rubber-stripe stands off from the car body, it causes a funny sound, but more likely at high speed.
best you ask someone a) to locate the sound while you are driving, b) to define the circumstances under which the effect arises.
try a search through <www.jaguarforum.co.uk>.

I also have an x-type and it has the buzzing noise too. If you look on the dashboard near to the steering column you will see a very small square vent with slats. If you get close to this I think you will find this is where the buzzing noise is coming from. My dealer told me the buzz is being made by the climate control unit as it tries to reduce humidity and remove any dampness from the air inside the car. He said they are all like that. Does that make it a design fault? I'm not sure if I believe him. Let me know if you find out that is where the buzz is coming from.

 

My X Type also makes a buzz type sound while the car is off and the key is either in or out of the ignition. Not sure what it is.

 

I just bought my '04 X-Type 2 days ago and was wondering the same thing. Will it wear the battery down? Does it ever stop? I stayed in the car about 5 minutes waiting for it to stop and it never did. Have you heard anything more?
