Question '02 X-Type Broken Sway Mount Fixable?

Hi all,

Just went out check out an '02 X-Type 3.0 Sport - the car threw a few codes (all relating to fuel injectors / misfires), the check light was on (my wee code reader wouldn't reset it), the motor shook a bit but sounded very smooth, no hissing but those hoses were all soft, air filter hose (or the short corrugated one on the top center) was missing any sort of clamp, no egregious oil spatters (that I could tell anyways), oil looked and felt clean, minor tennis ball size dent on front fender (no paint damage), but...

here's what stopped me dead in my tracks and had me saying "thanks for your time" before even driving...

When I looked around the suspension area on the back driver side wheel I noticed the mount for the sway bar - the actual part welded to the frame - had its business end broken off. No way to reattach the sway bar.

All the other issues seemed things I could probably happily tackle as I'm kind of into a project, but welding and/or fixing something directly on the frame scares the crap out of me. The car was cheap-ish - $2,700 USD - so my question is: how much to have that sort of thing fixed? Is it even do-able without affecting the title? Does it really even matter (could I just take the bar off and be done with it)???

Cheers!

- Brad

just weld it and weld a strap across the back for extra support. done it before any muffler shop with a welder can do it

Thanks Brutal!

I should say, I don't have the bit that broke off so something would have to be made up. How should this impact the asking price for this car?

it shouldnt. its not safety related and if done properly, better than factory since they do break

Excellent info!

What's an honest price for this sort of job? (Just need to know if we're talking a hundred, a few hundred, or just what.)

Brad,

I've moved your thread from General Tech Help to X-Type forum. Please post model specific questions about your X-Type here.

purely subjective, to where you go. I first would get a bracket cut off from a wrecking yard since you said its missing and then go to several muffler shops since they crank up welders all day long
