Default 05 3.0 wagon - throttle stutter

My wife's 05 (135k miles btw) has for some time been acting up. first symptom was at very slow speeds, say when you turning a corner, then step on it, it wont respond at first then jolts. later to began to also occasionally sputter again are relatively slow speeds when you accelerate slowly. this is happening more often.

We've replace the plugs, the Mass Air Flow, bot of which seemed to make a difference in performance but the symptoms are still there

The mechanic I use for my Beemer thinks it is the throttle position sensor which apparently in this model year is built into the throttle body.

Local dealer is extremely proud of this particular feat of engineering and strongly believes it is worth every penny of the $950 it wants for the part alone.

Hence this desperate plea for any help from this forum

Have you run any codes? If not that would be the first step, otherwise everyone is just guessing.

Have you checked to see if the throttle plate needs cleaning? If dirty it could be sticking. See this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...roblems-99032/

I don't know your situation at all, but I have seen threads on cleaning and repairing the TPS. I also know that you can find them used including the throttle body cheap on eBay. They are really easy to install.

My car used to have a rough downshift that was noticeable when I would brake to make a turn and then accelerate again. It would take a moment to downshift before I could accelerate properly. Transmission fluid and some solenoids helped. That is likely not your issue though.
