05 ABS engaging randomly when stopping
Hello everyone, question for the community. Just recently I noticed that in my 05 x type, when coming to a complete stop, the brake peddle jumps as if the ABS is kicking. It only happens when the car is about to stop an is intermittent. Any idea about why this is happening an what it could be? Thank you for the help!

You have one or more wheel speed sensors that have gotten debris in it, not the sensor but the clock ring attached to the hub/collector ring maybe picked up (for example) a plastic bag or other debris. I know on some trucks that if the bearing is going it causes this symptom. If it were a broken wire you should get a CEL.. It might be a good Idea to see if there are any codes stored for ABS, some scanners will tell you which wheel sensor is triggering it some don't. As a side note if the wheel bearing on a Chevy 4x4 is put in backwards (which is possible)it will trigger a ABS code.(just a FYI). You can pull the fuse for the ABS but be where you won't have Anti lock or traction control so drive accordingly.

Just a mention... Im not a mechanic so I may not word this correctly but, my mechanic did tell me, last time he had my 2004 x-type up on the lift, to watch for the ABS modules that they tend to rust out quickly and cause the ABS to engage when stopping and to keep an eye on it... or rather a foot... :-)
Dont know if that helped or not but thought I would mention it

Typically, what I have seen in the past is the rear sensor ring on the CV joint has rusted and popped off the joint. The only way to see it is to remove the rear wheel and wheel speed sensor and look into the hole. There are some threads on here to help with repairs. Various way to fix include replacing the axle shaft, replacing just the CV joint, and sometimes just the ring. Either way, make sure that is your failure first by looking at it.
