Default 05 x-type auto - key stuck

The key is stuck in the ignition on, and cannot be turned off.

It's as if the automatic tranny isn't sensing it's in park.

I pulled the fuse to stop her running ... can anyone help on a way to get the key out, or convince it it's in park??

Cheers!

Is it beeping as if it’s not in park as well? If so, It’s the park switch.

It’s really easy to get to. Just unscrew the shift knob and then pop the cover right off. Once inside you'll see it.

I was able to remove my switch, take it apart, clean the contacts on it and reassemble it. It works great again. Just be careful not to break the plastic retainer tabs on the outside housing when you take it apart and don’t lose the tiny spring inside. Take a picture of the guts before you take it apart so you know exactly how to get it back together.

It’s a little challenging but not impossible by any means.

When you say pop the cover off ... do you mean just the black part inside the shifter area, or the whole console?

Is there a how-to or diagram of the tabs somewhere? I don't want to end up snapping anything.

Cheers ... appreciate the help.

Basically the whole peice of the top j-gate console pops out around the shifter from the base of the ash tray down. Mine is wooden I'm sure your's is too. I pops straight up without much effort. Next you will need a torx head screwdriver to remove the rest of the upper part of the j-gate. Easy and pretty straight forward. The tabs are on the switch. You will see what I'm talking about when you see it. They are just plastic tabs that hold the switch together. I used a jewelers flathead to gently snap them free and get inside.

Before you take the switch apart, use a volt meter set to continuity to check if the switch is working first. You could have a problem in the ignition switch thats locking up the key.
