Default 05 X-type intermittent not turning over

Hi, I have a 2005 x type estate which intermittently will not start. I put the key in and it tries to turn over bit won't start so I then turn engine off n start again at which point I then get nothing, no turning over, no clicking just nothin but all the lights on the dash and radio come on. I had the aa out who ran their diagnostics and p0070 air temp maintenance and p1000 old system faults came upset he said that shunt stop it from starting like it was. Anyway once he had run diagnostics even tho he didn't do anything with them the car started straight away. Any suggestions would be great as I have no idea! Thank you!

Just a stab in the dark but it sounds like bad/lose/dirty battery connections.

Thanks,I'll get it checked. Not sure if it's relevant but when it won't start the red light come on the temp gauge and stays on even though the car is cold and the gauge doesn't move?

Weak batteries and bad connections will make the instrument cluster on a Jag light up like a Christmas tree. Let's see if it is connections or your battery. Get them cleaned and tightened then have the battery load tested.
The battery can have enough juice to turn the engine over but not enough that the ecm will allow fuel and starting.

It is very possible. Do you know where it is located? If you do push down on the button on the top to reset it. If that lets it start, we will have to figure out the next steps.

There's an immobiliser button? All I can see is the light that on the middle console directly behind the gear stick, next to a button that looks like traction control.

Looks like a reasonable pursuit. You might also try swapping out relay 12 in the engine fuse box. It is the relay for the starter.

you COULD be having a issue with the security system.( Turn the key NOTHING, off and on with the ignition key and it starts) is what usually happens. Some times the door lock system or the ignition key does this. Open and close ,lock/unlock ALL doors, same with hood, trunk and try a different key see if it helps
