Default 16's-17's-18's????

I have factory 16’s on my X-Type. When spring comes around I thought of getting 17’s or 18’s. I guess my question is, which would you do? I want to keep OEM rims on the car. Any sort of style of rim you would choose? What size tires? Thanks

This question should be good....usually is....lol

Me personally I'd go for the 17"s with the 225/40/R17 setup...Had them on my X with the Sports Alloys and they looked n performed very well.
There has been some members who have put 18"s or even 19"s on their cars and had problems with rubbing etc etc, although there has been a few who haven't had this problem, but not many.

As always, by all means ask for comments. Do some research yourself too and in the end?

All you can do is use all the available information at hand and make your best decision based on that.

All the best mate....Keep us informed

Jim

If your car is a daily driver I'd go with no larger than 18's. Since my car is just a weekend car, I went with 19's with 225/35/19 tires. I do experience rubbing in the rear when someone is in the back seat and slight rubbing in the front when I hit a bump in the road.

I love the look of the 19's though, but too each its own.

stick with oem's, i love the arubas. 18" all the way, but i cant stress sticking with oem enough. i think only one person here got aftermarket wheels with no rubbing issues.

I have Continental ProContacts, and they are pretty poor. I've heard Michelin's are pretty good but expensive.

JV - I'm in the same boat w/ you there. I love the look of the OEM Proteus wheels (18"), but in my own opinion I think 18"s look too big on the X....but that's just me. I have searched and researched on the wheel issue and still am no better off than when I started looking....too many choices!

I did find these aftermarket wheels recently that got me really curious $699 on Ebay and really nice looking...42mm offset, 17x8 and supposedly designed to fitJags...anyone seen/heard anything on these?

You aren't serious are you jason? You can buy cars for profit and have no idea what oem is?j/k but not really! Your hilarious man! I wish we could all meet some day! Ok for real though j/k

jvegas go 18's and if you find a deal go with oem otherwise get some aftermarket. Unfortunately stock jag rims cost a lot of money so be ready to pay. Some believe you need winter tires but I live in michigan and get just as crappy weather as you and I'd never buy winter tires unless I had money at my disposal to use on them, otherwise I'd rather deal with the all weather tires! Soon though I wont have to worry about all season or winter tires as i'll be living in texas!

Those wheels looks sweet redjag! I love 5 spoke and especially rounded 5 spoke like those! Nice price as well!

JVegas try tirerack they have some nice rims and tires with some really good prices on some more stock like rims...don't even look at the oz leggera rims though...

I really like those stock Jaguar 2-piece rims. They look so badass. I think they have like 10 spokes? They have the rivets on the rim too.

yeah...I really am torn on the look of 17's vs 18's.....despite my earlier comment.

aquill...did you check out the sizes on the Coventry wheels...17x8 and 18x8 w/ 46mm offsets...think there would be any rubbing w/ either w/ 225's....235's??

Those 10spokes are nice but I'd rather have the 5 spoke one's thought for 18's. As far as rubbing don't do 235's they will rub, especially if you plan on driving in the snow with them in the winter. My 225's suck in the snow, there is so much rubber that what ends up happening is it more or less sleds around without you being able to control stuff like you can with your stock 16's with the 215's. I'd say depending on if you use your rear seat or want to drop your car 18's may deter you but 8" wide you might be fine...you could always go 215's in the front with those but than the rim isn't protected by rubber so if you get any kind of pavement action you just scuffed your wheels...

Redjag your is the standard x not sport right? You have a little more play with rims vs. those of us with the sport model. Personally there are a few rims from tirerack that i'd get from them.

asa jh 9 is one of my favorite rims from them. Its inexpensive and looks nice. You can view what he rims will look like on your car and you can even change the color of your car as well. They sell in both 18's ($159) and 19's ($179). They are 8 inch wide with an offset of +45 which is perfect. For the cost those are some of my favorite rims!

I'd take either of the rims below as well...
Rial porto-129 for the 17 and 181 for the 18.

Rial como-149 for the 17. Personally this rim looks a little harder to clean so I'd go with the porto not to mention that they are less expensive than this one.

For tires on 18's (me not wanting to spend a lot of money on tires) I'd get the kumho ecsta asx for 90/tire.

18x8 Rial Porto Bright Satin Sil Paint
In Stock 4 $181.00 $724.00 225/40R18 RF Kumho Ecsta ASX
Blackwall In Stock 4 $90.00 $360.00 Road Hazard Program for 225/40R18 Kumho Ecsta ASX
4 $10.80 $43.20 Hunter Road Forceâ„¢ Mounting and Balancing FREE! FREE!
Grand Total: $1,202.98 w/shipping, taxes and fees.
Although I'd want something more flashy for 1200 bucks!
