2.0 Diesel spluttering in cruise
Hi
Hoping someone cleverer than me can point me in the right direction to cure a spluttering problem.
My car is a 2005 X-type 2.0 Diesel estate.
When driving with the engine under light load, normally around the 2000 rpm mark, it has an unpleasant jerky missfire or splutter. It goes away if you either remove your foot from the accelerator, or accelerate harder.
Also, when accelerating it produces a lot of white smoke. I don't know if this is related.
I have cleaned out the EGR valve, inlet manifold, and inlet ports. That didn't seem to make any difference to either issue.
There are no codes and the engine light doesn't come on.
Any ideas?

Update on this.
I found a split in the pipe from the EGR valve to the intercooler; a temporary repair has cured the splutter completely, and I’ve ordered a replacement.
I changed the oil and filter, as well as the air and fuel filters. The white smoke issue has improved a little, but is still very apparent.
