The car has a new battery in it, it still won't crank or start. The car is an automatic 4wd

It was sitting for a year! Yikes! That adds a whole new dimension to this. Could be a lot of things now.

Why was it sitting? Because it would not start or for one reason or another the previous owner did not drive it? Did the previous owner say it had that same no crank/no start condition before or was it running before they parked it for a year? The things you wrote the previous owner said were issues would not cause what you have right now.

Any evidence of mice damage to any of the wires or anything in the engine bay?

When you turn the key can you at least here a little whirring sound for a few seconds? That would be the fuel pump.

actially thee is a short whirling sound, seems to be coming from the trunk area, the previous owns says that the module kept getting wet, she became discouraged and purchased another car.

Angela, if car sat for a year you've got some other issues. Gas in tank has probably gone bad for one thing; even if you could get it to turn over the engine may not fire. I recommend you find a decent shop (dealership or an independent that knows Jaguar) that can help you get this car functional. That whirring sound is the fuel pump operating, trying to supply engine with fuel. I think there may be some confusion here though - the TCM is Transmission Control Module, which I don't think would keep the engine from starting. The previous owner could have been talking about the Engine Control Unit (or Module). That unit is housed below the windshield on passenger side. Water getting into or around it could certainly cause a no start condition. I think you're going to need some professional help here.

Thank You, do you know why the car is making that whirling sound? So it has nothing to do with the TCM, the previous owner said she would use a code reader to clear the codes.

What does it mean when the fuel pump is making that whittling sound. We just bought the ecm we know it has to be programmed at the dealer. We got it from a car if the same model can it be programmed? I appreciate your responses.

Here's a YouTube video I found that describes changing out the ECM without needing to program. However you do need the instrument cluster and key from the donor car. If those aren't available then you'd need to have the car programmed.

Default 2002 Jaguar X Type 3.0 won't start

you are so thoughtful, informative, and helpful. It's funny I was just watching that video yesterday. My first attempt is to clean out the ECM if that don't work, we will go with the one we got out of the same model car, then get it programmed. Wish me luck.

I didn't read the whole thread.
Did you've checked the inertia switch?

Hi, Thanks for the reply.

Yep. Tried resetting the intertia switch a few times.

J gate is stuck in park. no lights illuminated ( p, d, r, 1, 2, S ( sport ).
got the following P codes.

P1643 - Ecm / TCM Module Network error
P1699 - ECM / Climate Control / Can Link ECM / Rcc Network malfunction
P1339 Fuel Pump Circuit Low

I'm leaning towards the TCM - since the Jgate isnt responsive.
