2002 x gives me gearbox fault sometimes then works at others?

2002 x gives me gearbox fault sometimes then works at others?
Sometimes when I start my car it gives me a gearbox fault. I turn off the car try again... But their it is again. I take out the key wait 30 seconds turn it on and it works!
Sometimes I have to take out the key and try again multiple times. What do you guys think this might be?
