Unhappy Same here

I am having the same problem with my 2003 X-type. My will not turn at all now. I am surprised the factory doesn't do a recall to fix the problem as it is quite wide spread. I will take the car in next week. The dealer thinks the Lock Cylinder is bad. Will need a new cylinder and new keys programmed to the car. Could be expensive ....

Mechanical wise, Itll be 90% more the key than the locks. The old Tibbe design wasnt all that great to begin with. Because of the way the key works in the lock (Its boring so I wont go into detail) the wear on the key is at a guess 30% more than a 'normal' lever locks. (Basically on a Tibbe lock eveything moves about 5 times more than a normal lock) (As Noted above, the dealer will say its the lock.... theyre a LOT more expensive than a replacement key, but my experiance is itll be the key)

Problem is, once its worn down, its worn down. Even getting a duplicate made (eg another key cut) off the old key will still give you the same problem. Best bet (and its sounds like its to late now) always keep a spare origional key (If you have one when you got the car- And cut working keys off that origional,

A Jag dealer will be able to cut you a new one off your VIN, if you a rich, or...

Im unsure where the key code is on an X, but try the drivers door lock. You can get a key cut from that code and itll be just like a new one. Tibbe blanks are easy to find off Ebay, however I dont think they have all the buttons on them. Just search for 'Jaguar Tibbe key' They dont look as sexy as the real Jag key, but do have a few buttons on them so they look ok at a screen only look.

Dont spray WD40 etc into the lock, youll only cause damage to the lock mech and internals.

Default Spare key won't work either

We have a spare key, not used much, tired it also with no luck. They both work fine in the door, but not the ignition. Does anyone have any idea what a repair shop will charge to replace the cylinder and keys? I have contacted an import car repair shop who said they could do this, but could not give me an estimate until I bring the car in.

Try an automotive locksmith. You may find them a cheaper option
