2003 x-type outer tie rods
they are pretty much straight forward. Undo the lock nut then un thread the rod out of the sleeve making sure to mark the spot where it was at. Then measure on the new one how far it is and mark it with nail polish so it don't come off when moving it. Spray the old one with pb blaster if it gives you trouble.
It's not a bad idea to change the inner tie rods at the same time. It's not much more work once you have everything apart already while doing the outers.
The only problem that may come up is if the rod adjusting sleeve is rusty and stuck to the tie rod threads. Spray some penetrating oil on it and let it soak the night before you do the job and it may help. Sometimes I've had to resort to a propane torch to heat the sleeve to get it loose.
But as Dr dome said, it's pretty straightforward and very similar to every other vehicle with a tie rod. I've never had much luck putting the rods back in exactly the same way they came out in order to maintain alignment. When I do a tie rod job I always schedule the vehicle for a professional alignment immediately after.

I did replace the inner tie rods as well.
So once the tie rods were replaced I had an alignment. I noticed I have no caster adjustment available. Caster, Before (L)2.1 and (R)2.4. same after alignment. Any words of wisdom?
