2003 Xtype coolant leak/over heat issue
i couldnt find anything that sounded like my issue so i decided to post a thread, obviously. So last week i was on a two hour road trip and about an hour into it, i notice my temp gauge shooting towards the H, by the time i pull over it makes it into the red, but i dont see any steam or any signs of actual over heating. I shut the car off and in 5 minutes i turn it back on and its back to normal and will repeat the process after about 10 mins after driving. My only guess is the temp sensor but im not sure. any ideas?

I am NOT X Type familiar, bit an engine is an engine, is an engine.
My best guess would be a thermostat that is sticking.
Temp sensors rarely fail these days, technology really has caught up with them.
Thermostats, however, have changed little in basic design, and at the end of the day thermostats do work fairly hard, constantly opening and closing, albeit in small increments, but they are constantly moving, and do wear out.
I have many V12 units simply go legs up and jam, some shut, some open, others just partially, and havoc is the result no matter what failure mode occurs.
Replace the thermostat, bleed it if that is required.
Failing that, I would suspect the actual impellor of the water pump has gone AWOL. That is rare, but with the increase in plastics these days, it is becoming more common than a few years ago.
