Default 2004 3.0 Liter Jaguar X-Type ABS Warning Light

Hello All,

I think I might have posted this problem originally in the wrong forum (general tech questions), my apologies to the moderators. Anyway....

I was wondering if anyone out there could help me troubleshoot the source of my warning lights on my 04 Jaguar X-type (Sport Pack). About a week ago the ABS warning light along with the skid control light came on in my dash after applying the brakes. I went home and shut the car down for the night and the next morning when I came out and started my car only my check engine light was on, however after driving the car and after multiple times applying the brakes the ABS and skid control light came back on (as well as check engine light). This seems to be the typical pattern. I have read other posts on the forum about a possible sensor going bad in the wheel well. I was wondering if anyone had a detailed troubleshooting technique to find the exact sensor (resistance readings etc?). Another symptom is now my cruise control does not work. I am an electrical engineer by trade and know how to use a DMM and I am pretty good at troubleshooting. I would greatly appreciate any info. Thanks!

The most common cause of what you are describing is a bad rear wheel speed sensor ring or a bad ABS sensor at one of the wheels. If you get the computer scanned it will tell you which wheel is causing the issue. Many auto parts stores will scan your car for free. In the mean time you can jack up the rear of the car and look for a bad speed sensor ring on the outer CV joint. You will have to look for the inside of the rear wheels out--there is a hole in the suspension that you can see through. Rotate the wheel to look for a broken sensor ring.

Here is a great article:

Default ABS Scan Tools

Does anyone know if the Ford enhanced diagnostics add-on from the SCAN-XL software lets you read an X-type ABS codes?

Thanks
Vic

You probably got a "Sensor" in one of your Tires, probably came loose or damaged. There is a strap inside the tire that holds the sensor in the Tire. System scan should be able to tell, Dealer or Shop should be able to find which one.

There are no sensors inside of tires for the ABS.

OK, hope you find out what it is then. Thought that maybe it was that, cause I had to replace those in my Mustang GT, and it sounded like the same problem.

Nope, I have ScanXL Pro and love the software, but nothing enhanced for Jaguar. Only works for Ford. Bummer!

Cheers,

JAGXV6 is 100% correct. One of these issues is definitely the problem but I'm leaning towards the rings because you have a check engine light as well. Bad ABS sensor doesn't trigger check engine light however a broken ring does.
