Default 2004 X-Type AWD-Lights stuck on Hi-Beam

My lights are stuck on Hi-beam and are stuck on my 2004 X-Type. Do I need to change the dimmer switch and if so, do I need to remove the steering column to do so?

I've moved your question from S-Type to X-Type forum and amended the thread title from E-Type to X-Type. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

This is the tech forum for your model.

I assume that when you move the turn signal stalk that the lights don't respond. Contact DrDome a member here and he can provide you with a new turn signal stalk. You should be able to remove the plastic covers behind the steering wheel and unbolt the stalk. It should plug into the mount on the steering column.
DrDome can be reached at 484-903-4813 give him a text he can fix you up and give you pointers on the swap. He specializes in parting out X-Types. Let him know Vern said HI.

Thank you Vern, I will either text DrDome or give him a call and will tell him you referred me to him and said hello.

It's not very clear to me from your description, but another thought is that the Hi beam relay could be stuck On.

That's R1 in the engine compartment fuse box if yours is a late MY2004, or R15 in the Passenger compartment fuse box if it's an early MY2004.

Easier to check out than the stalk!!

Yes it kept niggling at me last night and i checked this morning. The main beams are controlled by a relay as astromorg stated. I have attached a copy of the fuse boxes for the early 2004. I don't have one for the later MY 2004.
if you have the early 2004 you will find the fuse box under your left knee when sitting in the car. It is easier to access with the change cubby pulled out of the dash.

Note: The stalk is not bolted on, it is clipped in place. There is a clip on the top that holds it in place. Just push it to your left (U.S. cars), and pull the stalk upwards. This is how it was on my 2004 x-type.
