Default 2004 x type powertrain light comes on goes into limp mode

hello,

my 2004 jaguar x type powertrain light (the red circle with the exclamation mark in the center) randomly comes on and then goes into limp mode, it happens very randomly... I've been to two mechanics and two transmission places neither of which can figure out what causing this to happen...
the codes are:

P1582

P0778

I've been without my car for two months now and don't know what to do.. both mechanics and both transmission places are great spots, have had other cars worked on at all four places over the years... this is the first time I've brought a vehicle into any of these places and they haven't been able to figure out what the problem is....

P1582 just indicates that information has been stored and doesn't signify a fault. The P0778 indicates a problem with the 2/4 brake pressure circuit malfunction. The solenoid in the transmission is either defective or the wiring to the solenoid has been damaged.

Follow the link i have posted below and download the section (X-Type Powertrain Specifications cont.). It will provide the steps to testing.

@Khb1 did you get this sorted. I have the same fault code and high voltage. Not sure if it's linked to a trans oil service. Maybe the speed sensor?

Sam, one of the common problems I have helped people with over the years is the insulation on the wiring for the solenoids breaks down over time and will fall off the metal wire. Then as the fluid gets splashed around, the wiring can make contact with the tranny body, grounding out the sensors. This will cause all sorts of hell. The fix is to pull the solenoid body in the tranny and replace the solenoids. IT is recommended to replace all of the solenoids, not just the one as if you have a problem with 1, the others are not in much better shape. A shop should be able to do this fix for like $500 or so.

Hi thanks, I actually had the transmission oil serviced by an independent specialist. I'm just waiting for him to come back from his holiday to get it back to him to diagnose and fix. This is really helpful, out of interest would it have been apparent to him that the insulation to the solenoids had perished or would it be more in the mechatronics so not line of sight. He did say he also changed the connector and seal for the harness too.

All was fine before the service, now Im scared to even start the car due to the high voltage and list of dash faults.

All the solenoids are out of sight. He may have seen a little bit of insulation in the fluid, maybe. I cannot say I have heard of anyone finding any insulation in the fluid.
