Default 2005 X-Type

Had trouble shifting automatic into gear replaced Actual shifter and Shift Cable still have hard time pulling shifter into different gears seems like its caught on something/ if I disconnect cable from shifter it works fine reattach cable and hard to pull
anyone else have this issue Just dumbfounded as to whats going on PS: also used wrench on trans gear selector and it moves freely HELP

Charles, I would be looking at how things are aligned. It may be possible that you ran over something or the like and now that cable is pulling things at an angle which will cause the amount of force needed to make things move go up dramatically. That is where I would start.

I put on a brand new cable replaced the shifter if I disconnect cable from shifter moves easily if disconnect from trans moves easily just when it’s connected to trans. Hard shift not all the way through pattern. Also got trans fault while shifting. Turn off ignition fault goes away

Charles, what I am getting at is from what you have posted, with the cable disconnected, the tranny shifts easily and the J-Gate shift easy. So, I can rule those out as likely having a problem. If the cable bracket got bent at some point and now the cable is not pulling straight on, that can cause stiffness in the cable because you are in short trying to pull the cable sideways out of the sheathing. This can cause it to feel like something is binding up.
