Am I missing something or is there NO shift lock release in this car? It has been sitting for 2 1/2 years and just got it running due to a locked up alternator. It starts and I can hear the release solenoid click under the dash, but it won't come out of park. Any suggestions?

 

If you can hear the solenoid then I would spray down the linkage at the shift lever and the trans lever to see if they are corroded in place.

 

This may seem obvious but...you do have your foot on the brake while trying to move the selector? And is the car on any degree of slope?

 

It is sitting in my driveway with a slight incline but I’ve been able to shift it out in the past. I’ll try to lube the ends tomorrow

 

would this be the same type of issue with the Security " feature " that occurs when someone ( not saying who lol " was in a Wendys Drive Thru for 15 mins, backing up traffic, getting screamed out by the elderly ( j/k ) - opens the drivers door for lets say 15 seconds, then closes the door and the anti-theft will not allow the vehicle out of park? took me 15 minutes to figure out the right "code" that worked. ???
