Default 4.0 or 4.2 put into a X-type?

I was just wondering if anyone has put a 4.0/4.2 V8 supercharged engine in a x-type? Or if it would even fit...?

I don't know the exact dimensions of the 4.0L motor, but I have a feeling that it wouldn't fit. Also, keep in mind that the 4.0/4.2L engines are designed for a RWD car. Moving that motor into an AWD vehicle is going to be a challenge in the first place due to having to move things around and what not. Then also you have to deal with the mating of the tranny to the motor. While I can't say this with 100% certainty, I believe the S-Types have 2 different trannies (1 for the 3.0L motors, 1 for the 4.0/4.2L motors). If the S-Types have the same trannies for both motors, then I would feel that you stand atleast a fighting chance of fitting a 4.0/4.2L motor into the car. Keep in mind though that the transfer case probably isn't going to like the additional power. So, obtaining a European version of the X-Type will be preferential in this case as it would only be FWD and you would be getting rid of the weak link.
