ok, well I dont know what I can do with a basic description of the problem.
Car engine smoke ususally is one of 3 colours.
Black = buring fuel
Blue = burning oil
Wite = steam= burning coolant.
maybe that big old gas guzzing V12 is just so powerful the wheels are spinning and the numb steering and suspension hides that from you. Tires can also make a great deal of smoke when they are spinning too.
backfiring can occur in the exhaust or in the intake. do you know what is happening there? It is actually pretty rare to have a backfire these days.. are you sure that is what it is?
The best clue is that it smells of gas..
Can you see a fuel leak? does it smell of gas under the motor hood or in the exhaust?
The car is electonic fuel injected. there should be no gas smell without a leak, or a very rich condition.
The injection computer tells the injectors how much fuel to let into the engine.
there are probably two main things that can make too much fuel.
ONE: the injector is not getting the signal to send fuel but it sends it anyway. - ie a leaky injector.
TWO: the computer is sending the wrong signal to the injector, telling it to send more fuel than needed.
For the computer to decide how much fuel to send it needs the following information as the very basics..
a) how cold or warm the engine is
b) how much air is going into the engine.
there are a lot of other factors that can make the car run poorly and have driveability issues (O2 sensor, engine rpm etc.. ) but if he car cant run at all and stinks of gas I would check
[ul][*]check air flow meter is working well, and no leaks in the intake path.[*]check for leaking injectors[*]check engine temp signal. [/ul]
