All,
I'm familiar with the price differences for Jaguar OEM parts versus aftermarket, but I got to tell you, ~ $1,700-1,800 for compressor versus $250-400 for an aftermarket (U.S. market) just seems W-A-Y over the top. I mean, is there really much difference in quality between Jag and aftermarket? Since Ford originally sourced these, what brand did they use? Are there any aftermarket compressors to avoid? Currently, I'm leaning toward BEHR HELLA or MAHLE, but would like to hear opinions from those who have gone before me.
Thanks,
Squito
Thanks, Dell. So I understand no real difference in quality. Did learn that the original was a Ford Scroll compressor. So thank you for that.
One additional question. For a 2005 Jaguar (which I have), the Parts Geek site list two UAC compressors applicable to different VINs:
Part Number: 18404-05981418 To VIN # ES8863
Part Number: 18404-06275986 From VIN # ES8863
Would you and/or others agree with me that the VIN has a typo and that the 'S' should be a '5' ? I'm pretty sure everything after the E is a numeric number on the X-types. My vehicle VIN ends with "E518.."
Then what concerns me is that the other manufacturers do not provide a distinction between VINs for 2005. So why the fit difference for UAC compressors?
Sorry, two questions
