Red face Advice on purchasing 2002 x type 2.5 manual with 175,000km(109,000miles) on it

I've been searching a lot online looking for a car to buy as my first car. I found this 2002 X- Type 2.5 with a manual tranny for sale through a dealer, certified and e- tested with 175,000km(109,000miles) on it for $5,995. The body and interior is impeccable. Is this car a good purchase even with that many miles on it or am I likely to run into a bunch of major problems?

If you're getting a warranty with that price, I'd say yes. But otherwise no.

I paid about that much for my '04 2.5 manual with 85K, but that was from a private owner.

Ok, thanks for the advice! Was that 85k miles or kms? Has the car been reliable for you?

85k miles, and yes so far it has been very reliable. Then again I've only had it a few months now.

If it comes with a 3 year warranty, I would then say yes it's a good deal- so long as the warranty cover the trans and transfer case.

Do you have any pics of it?

About a 1000-1500 over priced (assuming the warranty is worth the paper it is printed on). We paid about that for our 05 with 95k on the odo 4 years ago from a new car dealer. Then again, I'm cheap.

Around here in South Florida, that car would cost $2900.

It COULD be a good car, but you can never tell. if there is evidence that the previous owner kept up on maintenance and changed the fluids regularly chances are you'll have a good car. Check out the 3 year warranty on just what it does and does not cover and if/how much of a deductible there might be every time you take it in. Early cars are the ones that seem to have the most issues, mainly with the transfer case and rust by the sills. If this is your first car and you aren't handy handling some maintenance yourself it could cost you some money. On the other hand the miles are not particularly high for the age and if it was taken care of properly could be a very good car. Plus, the manual cars seem to be a lot less problematic than the automatics. Surf around on here extensively to learn as much as you can and if you have any questions most likely they have been talked about here. Good luck! I would think you could easily get 10%-15% off that price.

The main issues are with the transfer cases and transmissions. Because this is a Manual you took out one problem. Tell them you want the transfer case flushed and refilled with the proper oil. 600ml if I recall is filled. before you buy the car. Its not a bad price from a dealer with a warranty. This way if something happens, they did the work. It is a beauty.

Good Luck,
The Dr!
