Aircon Display Screen Blank.
G'day Gents,
I am a long time Jag owner having had a string of XJ6's and recently a 1995 XJ12 but my latest purchase is a 2004 3.0 litre X Type and what a great little car it is.
I've been doing all the usual chores since I bought it such as changing all the fluids and belts and hoses that have needed it and all is going well with the assistance of the knowledge on this forum.
Now I have a problem with the aircon display. It's gone blank, all the functions still work and all the LEDs light up but there is just a blank display. A couple of days ago the display screen went crazy and displayed a load of gibberish but an IGN off, wait 30 seconds and then back on and all was good. Not this time though despite powering off for several hours.
The only similar problem I've found in this forum is the failure of the complete control panel whereupon a replacement fixed it.
Without wanting to go down that path just yet do any of you learned gents have any suggestions that may bring my screen back to life?
It is not the touch screen type of control panel but the one with pushbutton switches.
Cheers,

Jeff, as I see it, you have 3 options:
1) work with it as it is and go from there
2) go with a replacement screen and fix the problem that way, or
3) pull the panel out and tear into it hoping to find a bad solder joint and then be able to resolder the joint to bring the screen back. Unfortunately, this is a hit and miss sort of thing as you have to have very good eyes and know what you are looking for and hope that the problem is not one of the black boxes (aka, IC chips) is bad.
As for where to look, can't say many have opened up the controller and gone for option #3. SO, the information is very little of where to look and what to go after.

G'day Thermo,
Thanks for the suggestions. I fixed it by removing the radio/airon control panel and using some spray contact cleaner and lube on the electrical connectors and working then both backwards and forwards a couple of times and now all is good.
