Default Aircon woes

Hi all my 2.5 AWD manual 2004 xtype has a distinct lack of Aircon, compressor seems ok in that the low pressure circuit value drops when the stepper clutch cycles, however when feeling around the condenser the only area that gets warm is the immediate area where the pipes enter and exit, one of the pipes (high pressure?) gets quite warm the other stays at ambient (low pressure?) My question is do I have a blocked condenser, presumably these things have a bypass to prevent excessive pressure in the system should a blockage occur?

Thanks for the advice Dell, just a bit curious, could an under performing compressor cause the symptoms my Aircon has?

Tried the valve/spring fix and now have Aircon again, I must admit I was sceptical about it but that tip has saved me a shedload of money, a big thank you to you Dell!
