WOW! How did I miss this post? I just went back to look at your reply for my over analytic response to your refurb, and then I saw this. WOW!!!!!!!! Jim, I am impressed and you have reached BUCKMR2 status for the DIY wheels.

Just NOT when it comes to my cars n keeping them lookin good!

I've just about finished them now....I was just about to give them one last coat of paint before lacquering and noticed a few slight imperfections so these were sanded down again and repainted ( 2 coats ) which are drying as I type. I will be applying the 2-3 coats of lacquer later tonight and hopefully be able to get the tyres fitted and onto the car tomorrow.
I will post some pics as soon asI am finished and was thinkin of taking some of them next to the ones I ( temporarily refurbed ) last week to show you guys just what a crap job I did first time round....lol
Anyway..gotta go......drying time nearly up and time for lacquer

Hey Jim, do you remove your tires yourself or have someone else do it?

 

Biggie, I take them to my local kwik fit centre and they do it for me. I know the guys and they're really good. They have done alignement for me numerous times and fixed free punctures for mem rotated the tyres etc.....all free of charge.
When I got them to swap the rims on / off the car and remove the tyres as well I slipped one of the guys like £20 as a small thank you. I take my car which is high mileage there all the time and the wifes and the daughters too. I've even had my mother in law there as well. So I pulled the manager to one side a while ago and said....I'm gonna give you all this business....what you gonna do for me?
I usually get a great deal on new tyres tooso its all good.

Anyway -
The refurb is finished............Waheyyyyyy!!

Ok….Here are the finished results of the alloys after complete refurb!
This involved 2 coats of Wurth white primer, followed by 4 coats of Wurth Silver alloy paint. When applying each coat I turned the wheels a ¼ turn each time as I noticed that with all the spokes n grooves some parts were getting more paint than others. I also noticed this after the “professional” refurb I had done on them a year ago.
Once done I applied 2 coats of Wurth clear lacquer again turning the wheel a ½ turn for each coat. Once the lacquer had dried a quick wipe down with Autoglym alloy wheel sealer to finish the job.

I believe having looked them over thouroughly that this is a much better job than the " professional " refurb I had done bout a year ago. Compared to new I'd say that these are about 99%, other than for the wear on the inside of the rim and where the tyres have been fitted you'd almost swear they were new.

I will try and get some pics tomorrow of the wheels just completed against those currently on the car so you can see the difference!

As much as i've really enjoyed the whole process I've got another set to do now, then I'll be selling at least 2 maybe 3 of them and the space saver too.......should hopefully get me most of my money back.

Finally got it finished.
Got the rims back from Kwik fit today with the tyres back on and balanced.
Took the car home and promptly inspected the wheels[&:]Bloody idiots had scuffed them here n there and I wasnt pleased. Anyway, managed to sort that out with a bit of T Cut and some elbow grease
Took the wheels off the car and cleaned the wheel liners and brake components, etc etc. ( I dont have time to paint them just yet - thats for later )
Applied Sonus total eclipse after drying them and buffed dry ( nnnnice ) cleaned the calipers and the Redstuff pads too
Fitted the tyre valve caps as previously posted and made sure that the growler centre caps were all staright n level ( its all in the detail...lol )

As soon as I get some spare time I will be repainting the calipers and also the hubs that can be seen and are a not so nice rusty lookin colour topped off with some lacquer should just finish the job off nicely.
