Attach front license plate on North American X-Type

Attach front license plate on North American X-Type

Is the screw I'm going to use to attach the front plate onto the factory supplied front plate holder supposed to go all the way through the hole in the plate holder and anchor into the bumper? - or shouldIbe using ashorter, fatter screw and anchor into the plate holder itself?

You need a screw that anchors it to the license plate holder. Not the bumper

Here in Ontario.. where front plate have been the law for decades... the dealer just rammed 2 screws into my plastic bumper cover.

Butchers... zero attention to detail. It amazes me that back in 2002 when my car was new... (and much more expensive than now - remember the big x-type price drop?) they could no be bothered to use the proper bracket.

I hear ya, that's why the I bought the wife a BMW..talk about attention to detail...they were and are the best! Don't get me wrong...my Jag dealer was ok...but the "personalization" part was missing.....did you know that BMW does a hand drawing portrait of you and your car.....man how cool is that...

Hey Kev,
if you ask me mate, I'd say don't use either. Over here we have a double sided tape not unlike 3m....apply that to the plate and then onto the plate holder / bumper or wherever and you'll have no uhgly screws or even the coloured screw holders which still uglify it IMO.
I've had mine on my last 3 cars like that and never ever had any problems and it looks a million times better too
