Auto Trans no 5th Gear need help
Took my daughters new Jag for a ride tonight after getting nearly all the bugs worked out I can't figure out why it's not shifting into 5th gear and setting code P0735 (Transmission 5th gear ratio fault). Did a fluid change/flush it was real dirty but not burnt and no bits of metal came out. It shifts well through all the other gears and the clutches seem to be in good shape and applying strongly. Only symptoms are a slight drone/whine when you're on the throttle that goes away under coast but I think it's the trans-axle making that noise.
Anyone had a similar problem or know what to look for?
Thinking of pulling the valve body but need some help from the pro's before I take the plunge. Really pray it's not new trans time.

Never heard of that problem before. I would guess it's something internal but then you'd think you would've found metal bits. All other four gears work normally? It sounds like 5th gear just stopped engaging for some reason, unless it's something to do with the computer which I would doubt.

Pulled off the side cover and disassembled as much of the trans as possible with it still in the car. Found out that it was a 2004 unit with all the upgrades and was pretty clean inside with no burnt clutches. Unfortunately for me, I didn't find anything obvious but most of the o-rings and seals look to be worn out and need to be replaced. The reverse clutch/high clutch drum had some scoring on it but it almost looks like grinder marks and it doesn't appear to be on the wear surface so I don't think that's the problem. Posted a few pics to see if any of you might have some helpful tips.
Now I'm really not sure now if I want to put more money into trying to fix this one or just bite the bullet and swap it our for a working one.
Thoughts?

Pulled the trigger today and bough a guaranteed used trans with torque converter today for $675.
Just couldn't swallow spending the $2,300 the trans shop needed to fix it, and by the time I bought all the parts to recondition the one in the car I'd have been out more than $500 in parts alone.
Plan on doing the swap myself next weekend and with the instructions from Jag on trans replacement the job should be manageable but it doesn't' look like it's going to be any fun...
Wish me luck folks.
