Autocross a Bad Idea for an X-Type?
Good Morning,
Is it true that autocrossing an X-Type may not be the best idea? I searched the forums and there aren't many posts about it, but the couple I found mentioned that the X-Type transfer case is not up to the stresses of it and will most likely fail. Is that true even on a Sport model? I'm looking at an '05 Sport with manual transmission and was hoping I could make it out to a couple of AutoX events each year as it's a sport I enjoy. But, I don't want to be breaking expensive driveline components either. :-) Any comments would be appreciated as it's something I definitely need to consider before making a purchase. Thanks in advance!

I've autocrossed my X a number of times and reported on it in some other threads. An X-Type is recognized by Jaguar North America and runs in Class N. There should be no problem with running your car. Just don't do burn-outs. Be gentle, but that really is the secret to Auto Crossing success anyways.

Should hold up just fine as long as you keep up with normal maintenance.. The transfer case issues you keep reading about are in response to people asking about adding more power to their X Type- it's rated just fine for the power it has but if you're thinking of big power adders (think turbo) then you will likely run into transfer case issues.
