Reading the sigs...

Preventitive Maintenance is a whole lot cheaper than Corrective maintenance. "

vs

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!"

Oh the confusion...

For those of you that maybe thinking about doing the fluid change..

Just be aware that you will have to remove the Battery and Battery box in order to get at the fill port..at least on mine I will..

Dennis, would you be willing to make a comprehensive how-to for your fill/drain process?

I'm sure I, as well as others would really appreciate it.

Thanks.

I'll take pictures and narrate them the whole step of the way.

I did the same thing for the Land Rover forum I had, when I did it's tranny fluid change.

Well I figure if I bought Jag's fluid it would cost somewhere around $400.00+..verses $80.00 with Royal Purple..and still have the same long life protection from possible failure.

Dennis-

I haven't read far enough into this, however from my experiences w/fill+drains on many automatics, you'll only get whatever is in the transmission oil pan and not the entire transmission.

Is this statement correct? I prefer this method than a more aggressive flush that gets all the fluid out of the system at once. This can be a real shock to the system and I've seen cars w/higher mileage and very poor transmission maintenance kick the bucket w/fresh fluid added so abruptly.

Precisely. At $50+/qt. You're looking at $450 w/o tax.

Furthermore, I plan on doing this more than 'once in a while.' When I get around it, I'm going to try to get the techs' 'real' opinion on this ordeal. As a premature guesstimate, I think a healthy 30k mile interval is a solid regimen for most trans.

Yes that is correct..the remainder is in the cooler and Torque converter..Flusing is okay too, but you have to have one of the inline flushers..and may cause too clean of fluid all at once..Don't know if this would be a concern with these tranny's with high miles on it, but I have heard trannys with conventional fluid with high miles it is best to just drain and refill only, as flushing breaks loose sludge deposits..I will put a 100 miles on the first drain and re-fill and then drain and refill it again..this way I'll be getting at least 75% of all the old fluid out.

Hey Ruslan..As I mentioned in the first part of this Thread..I will more than likely be going with Royal Purple MaxATF Multi-spec. I have yet to find a single technical contridiction to using it.. a friend that works at an O'Reilly's, can get it for me for $9.00/qt.

***CHANGE OF PLANS>>I will not be using anything besides the official JATCO fluid..see below)

Excellent information Ruslan Thanks....this info and what else I've been researching on the JATCO transmission fluid leads me to believe that the use of any other product besides the Idemitsu K17 - Jatco 3100 PL085..would be fools play on my part..so..right now, I will NOT be changing my fluid unless I can find this JATCO fluid at some price a whole lot cheaper than my dealer sells it for ($50.75/qt.)

I can probably get it for you cheaper than that. Just don't know how to ship liquids.
