AWD thumping noise question
I have question, we got our first snow today and got to experience the AWd. my question is when it kicks in i can hear a slight thump in the front, is this normal? i have a 3.0 x-type sport if that helps.
it sounds like it is coming from the right...how hard is it (CV joint) to replace? expensive? I'm moderately mechanical can I do it or does it need to go to a shop for special tools?
thanks for helping!

If it were me (socket set and some torque wrenches) I would replace the cv myself. To test if it is indeed the cv axle or not though, you should make sharp turns under moderate power and see if it starts clicking or clunking. If not, you might want to wait on the cv replacement because normally that is the tell-tale sign of a worn cv axle. If you look up on youtube how to replace a cv axle, it will essentially be the same for most cars (bolts just in different locations.) Also, if you haven't already, the JTIS is very helpful for doing work like this.
