Back Up Light Switch
burton, if you open the hood of your car and look behind the battery, you will see the top of the tranny. You should see a 2 wire plug there on the top of the tranny. That is your back up switch. If you need some help, I am about an hour south of you in California MD. I am sure we can get you taken care of.
As for obtaining a new switch, if you need a new one, go to jaguarparts.com and then put in the year and model of your car. From there, it will bring up a page that you can select "Electrical" (square icon that says Electrical). From there, you will see it expand a listing on the left and you can then select "Chassis Electrical". The top of the list should be the backup switch that you are after. They are listing it for $51 plus S&H. They are based out of Cleveland, OH. So, you should get the part in like 2-3 days.
Your other option is to look up a vendor here called "JPLV". It is a dealership out in Las Vegas and you can call them up and they will get you the part for a good price (list price is $57 for the part). The Jaguarparts site only gives you the lower price if you do everything over the internet. I have used both places and they are both good places.
