battery mantenance and replacement

battery mantenance and replacement
I have a 2005 that was put into service in July 2005. As best as I can tell it still has the original battery. I live in a hot climate and in general a battery here is good for about three years and then you are rolling the dice. From the looks of things in other threadsthe battery in the X-Type can not be picked up just anywhere. So my question is, do any of you have experience with the battery lifeof the stock battery or know what it is rated, in months I mean? I don't want to be left stranded and have normally replaced a battery 6-9 months before the life expectancy expires just to be on the safe side. Should I expect 36, 48, 60 months or even more out of the stock battery?
Thanks.
Thanks.

RE: battery mantenance and replacement
Honestly I don't exactly know. I replaced mine last winter and I have a 2002. I went to the local shop that sells only American made parts for cars and they happened to have the battery I needed. Most parts stores don't carry the battery needed for the jag. I thought I paid 140 for it but I found the receipt recently and I only paid like 80 or 90 bucks for the battery. List on it was 140. If you aren't showing problems with the battery I wouldn't honestly worry about it. However you can take it into some shops like autozone and they will test it for you and see exactly where you stand. Personally the worse place for a battery is in a cold climate like here in Michigan for batteries, to me warm climates would make me think you could get away without having to change them out as frequent but that is my assumption.

Three years? IIRC, most batteries will do a good 7/8 years.
Even with the hot climate you speak of, that's really low life expectancy.
If you're really that concerned, take it out and go get a load test done. Most auto-stores will test your battery for free.

i have an 2003 X and i just had to replace the battery. If you do get stuck with the battery craping out on you, you won't know it is the battery at first. here is what happened when mine died.
i was driving around town and the car was fine. i stopped at a store and ran in. when i came out and tried to start the car, the lights came on and the car did nothing. the screen read "security failed" and thats it. the car would not "crank" like other cars would. the lights were not dim. i thought something was wrong but would not have guessed the battery.

You can also consider of having battery jump starter for your cars .I highly recommend it .One of my cars run down the battery and it was so empty that even door lights were not lit . I just connected and it help the car start the engine .No problem since then

You probably just drained the battery by accident and didn't realize it. If it's a bad cell, there's no way you can just charge it once and it'll keep going.

You can jump start the cars with a jumper box. They do not recommend vehicle to vehicle jump starting as the modules are pretty voltage sensitive.
Tarhells, there is the factory battery that came with car. It has a Jaguar leaper on top, under that it will have the warez number. should look like 1x43-4545-ab or something like that. Also will say Varta on the top somewhere.
If your battery has the leaper, but no warez number on it and no Varta tag, it is the Interstate replacement battery.
Incidentally, the battery should be rated at 680CCA for most Jaguars.

After 48 hrs , I tried to start it but no chance .However that time you could see the door lights coming on lol .Again jump starter box and started the engine .Now it starts as it should but the led indicator to the battery has been "dark" for a few months lol

RE: battery mantenance and replacement
Bought a jump starter battery for£17 just incase.
Last year bought a fridge/oven for the boot to keep my insulin cool when away from home.
Plugged the cooler box inovernight totest it.
Next morning...no power to start.
Connected battery starter and Bobs Your Uncle.
Started straight up.
Now have bought an optional accessory for the fridge to stop itdraining the battery.
If battery gets low it disconnects the fridge power.

Just make sure you look around the negative terminal periodically. The batterys on X-Types tend to crack there and cause the blue death on cable.
Select will not pay for battery replacement incidentally. Just letting ya know before you go to dealer with no start.

RE: battery mantenance and replacement
But the battery is under warranty for the first four years if I remember. Anyway, I will check the terminal tomorrow but did not notice anything out of the ordinary today. I guess I never really got my question answered come to think of it. So, do you know what the rating is for the stock 2005 battery life? I guess at least 48 months, but maybe nothing more? I am thinking that to be on the safe side I should probably just get a new battery next summer when it comes up on four years. Couldn't hurt.
