RE: battery removal=lost radio ?
If we are talking about a U.S. spec car and IF the initial inspection and setup was done properly when the car was delivered from the factory to the dealer you will not need the code. Unfortunately many times the inspection and setup are not done properly and the code will be required. You should have the code with your original dealer paperwork. It is also available from the DDW information IF the radio is the original. If the radio has been replaced and you dont have the new code card that would have come with the new radio then it will have to be removed to read the serial number which can then be used to retrieve the code from Alpine. When you ask Jaguar for the code they ask Alpine for the code and then someone tells the owner of the car the code.

RE: battery removal=lost radio ?
I believe that codafile is in the UK and pretty much I'd tend to agree with JagXV6.
You dont NEED to remove the battery to replace the headlight as I've had it done without removing the battery. You will however, need a small pair of hands and or some patience.
If you do decide to go down the route of removing the battery I'd say you would definitely need your radio code to hand. If you don't have it your dealer will be able to provide it for you.

During the initial pre-delivery inspection process there is a step to put the radio in codeless mode and this is supposed to happen for U.S. spec cars but some techs have skipped this step and the code is then needed.
The DDW is Direct Dealer Warranty and is what the dealer prints out when you go in for service. It details all the serial numbers for the various parts installed on your vehicle and lists the start and end dates of the factory warranty, select edition warranty and apco warranty. That's why if the radio has never been changed the code can be retreived by using the DDW rather than removing the radio to get the serial number.

RE: battery removal=lost radio ?
Another person here who has had the battery and radio out on multiple occasions with no need for a code.
Also agree that it is not necessary to remove battery box to access headlight. Wear latex gloves while handling the bulb and that way you don't have to be quite as careful when manipulating the new bulb. Small hands would be helpful, but I've got catcher's mitts and can do the job.
