Default Bent Rim...questions

Ah, the joys of buying a used car. Apparently one of the stock 17" rims is bent. When it got rotated to the front I started noticing ashimmy in the steering wheel. I am looking at replacing all the rims with aftermarket. Still looking at 17" rims, but I have questions on offset.

The wheel I am looking at is 17x7.5 with 47mm offset. Am I looking at any problems if I run the stock tire size 225/45/17on this rim? I would guess the stock rim (Cayman) is a 7" rim so this would be wider with more offset (I'm guessing...).

What do you guys think?

Edit: Tirerack.com lists it as available for the X-type, but still wondering your thoughts before I pull the trigger. Here's a pic...

Just a thought skyjump........totally up to you of course.
I'm not sure if you were thinkin of byuyin new rims anyway, but, here goes.
I had the same problem and have Sport 17" rims and one was slightly buckled. I bought a full set of Ebay with tyres ( approx 4-5 mm left on Michelin Pilot Sports ) for £250.
Refurbed mine and now the new set at a total cost of £330 approx.
This'll give me 4 "NEW" rims and I'll also be able to replace that bloody space saver in the boot with a full size alloy wheel.
I'll sell the other 3 back on Ebay and get my money back.

Is that an option for you or did you wanna change your rims anyways? Please post a pic of what rims you have at present.

Cheers

Jim

I thought it looked like the Aruba as well, albeit much cheaper than what Jag wants. I was looking to change out rims eventually anyway so this is no big deal. I do have a set of tires that I am going to sell along with the three good rims so I shouldmake out okay.

Definitely a nice design! These are $150/wheel. Shipped to my door they would be $650 for four.

i think the stock offset is between 42-48mm, so you should be in the safe range...but be prepared for the rubbing. So far all of us w/ aftermarket wheels deal with it. But in 17's i dont think you'll have an issue. Make sure you post some pics when you get em!!!

i run 18 and never had a problem with rubbing, even with 4 adults in the car.

If I were you and you I would probably either......

A.) Replace the single bent wheel

or

B.) Uprgrade to an 18"/8.0" wheel and make the replacement worth while

If your stuck on the 17" you might as well find one that is 8.0" wide. It makes a big difference both in handling and appearance. BUT, please don't be like a lot of X-Type owners and buy 8.5" wide wheels for the front (rear is fine) because that actually makes the handling worse and less responsive.
