Default Blower Motor Fuse Blowing

Please help with any ideas you may have! I hae a 2003 X-Type and about 2 weeks ago fuse 99 blew while my wife was driving home from work. I found the blown fuse and replaced it. I started the car and went through all of the controls and it worked fine. The next morning i started her car for her before leaving for work. Ten minutes later when she got in, it had blown again and was not working. So yesterday I went to change the fuse again and this time it blew as soon as I inserted into the slot. Any ideas on where to start and what you think might be wrong with it?

Thanks,
Matt

Not a good one, obviously you have a ground short, check the wires under the dash, something has rubbed or heated or melted. Good luck, it will be a job tracing it. Try finding the wire where it plugs into the blower, unplug it and replace the fuse, look for the cooked connector then work your way back.

Damn a recheck on your work for your wife, thats not good
put a new fuse in after you unplug the blower motor under the dash. If it doesnt blow go buy and replace the blower motor

I second what Brutal recommends. It is possible the blower motor bearings are starting to bind up, leading to the blower motor pulling too much current.

Default Fuse #99

Ok, after further investigation the fuse that is blowing is fuse #99. Based on the fuse panel information it control the luggage compartment light, footwell light, puddle light, vanity mirror light, interior light, roof console unit and the air con control unit.

As I mentioned, now as soon as I insert a fuse it blows so it must be a ground short somewhere. Any suggestions on where to start in diagnosing where it might be?

Matt

at the risk of being a jerk, I would start with luggage compartment light, footwell light, puddle light, vanity mirror light, interior light, roof console unit, and air con control.

lol at least the roof console is easy to unplug...

pull the sunvisors down, this is by far the number one issue on that circuit for being at fault. Wires either get chaffed on the roof, or someone puts the sunvisor screw though it

many thanks Brutal,
your advice was spot on. I had my X type in the shop trying to trace a dead short on fuse 99. They spent a couple of hours and failed to find the fault, 15 minutes after reading your advice I traced the fault to the sunvisor. One of the screws had gone through the wires. Many thanks, you have saved me hundreds of $$$$$$.
Great to know there are people like yourself who are willing to share your information.

This is an old thread but it saved me a lot of headaches.. Had just replaced the headliner and blower stopped after I put it back in. Turns out the driver's side sunroof screw pinched the wire and kept blowing the fuse.

you guys are welcome and this is the kind of experinace you find from many dealer tech that have worked on your type cars for years. As I tell frineds all the time. TAKE YOUR CAR TO SOMEONE THAT KNOWS AND WORKS ON YOUR TYPE CAR EVERYDAY. No matter Jag, GM, FORD, BMW etc... Many times alittle more upfront for experiance and expertise saves alot more down the road

Thanks for this post; the Jag tech at the dealer quickly found this, but I was ready in case he didn't! Never dreamed when I replaced my driver's-side visor I was disabling my HVAC system.
