Default body work for "rust already?!?!"

For those of you that have read my post “rust already?!?!” you now know that Jaguar is going to fix the rust on my rocker panels and A-frame. (which i still can't understand after all the hell they put me through so they don't have to due it.) I was wondering how they fix it. How do you “fix” rust? Do they just sand it and paint it? Do they remove and replace body parts? And will they just paint the spots where the rust was or the whole car?

That would be a better question for somebody that does body work...I can imagine it will require some cutting out of old metal and brazing in new peices that are rust free..I'm guessing of course..but that's what I seen done on Overhauling.

if its surface rust your right on par jvegas. If its structural, they will either replace the whole piece or weld another prefab piece in place of it.

Definitely looks like a little more severe than surface rust..I think $10,00 would be a little on the high side in any case..maybe a little more thanhalf that in total repair...But they are pickin up the costs, so gives a flying flip how much it will cost..Just make sure they do a good job like Bo said.

If it were mine...I'd let them fix it up all nice and purty..Then I would sell it..The rust I'm sorry to say will always be there..

Yup, my '88 XJ40 rusted severely under thedoor trims as well. They cutout and removed all the rusted surfaces like you said and then they compressed sheer metal parts instead .As I recall, they welded the remaining door parts along with the sheer metal pieces that replaced the rusted ones .
We drove it a few years and again that cancer like rust revealed .

So, I think your best best is to replace all the parts .Let's say your door rusted and I think replacing that rusted door to a new one is the best way to go despite its cost .Ofcourse that applies if you're intended to keep your car for a long time otherwise justrepair it w/o replacing major items and then sell it
