Default Broken latch

Hi all,
I recently purchased a second hand 2005 X-Type V6 3.0 awd with 130000 miles. Yesterday I needed to fold down the back seats and noticed that the latch to unlock the left seat is broken. Any idea on how to unlock it now?

Is it the piece that you push or the actual latch.

The cover for the rear fold down seat latch is on the parcel shelve. Fold down and exam the seat that is operating and you can visualize the steps to expose and release the broken latch,

I have the Estate so my releases are different. Vern appears to have the answer here.

I did exam the working seat and that's the part that scares me. It looks like there is no access to the lock unless you pull the metal cable that I showed on the picture

From those pictures I would look closely how the latch works. Perhaps a long screwdriver down the backrest can prise the latch to open.

I tried with the operating one. I unlocked the seat than I closed the latch by hand. i tried to open it with a screwdriver but it didn't work. it looks like the only way to open the latch is from the side where the metal cable should be connected.

When trying to open the good one with a screwdriver you are hindered by the release cable so without the cable there should not be any resistance. Watch closely how the release works and you should be able to suss it.
