I am thinking about buying an 02 2.5 xtype 5 speed manual with 36k miles...i test drove it today and it drove great..i love the car..im not a mechanic so i couldnt say what kind of condition it is in from just driving it and looking at it..i might be just rushing the issue but i want to get this car before the weekend and my credit union is closed on the weekends so the only way i could do this is to finalize everything tomorrow but the shop doesnt have any appointments until monday...the thing is, the car has an extended warranty until june 6, 2008 so i figured if i buy the car now and get it inspected in the next few weeks and if there is a problem i could have the warranty take care of it while its still under warranty..the car only has 36k miles for a 6 year old car and she has all maintence records since she bought it in 2002..it has been regularly serviced twice a year as she showed me all the paperwork...do you think it would be safe to buy it now then get it looked at later??

i would wait.. the car sounds nice. the price is just over Blue Book. I would wait to get it inspected first. If it was some great deal then maybe jump on it but it is not a great deal... it's a good deal. But, i would wait. Remember that just because the price tag on the car is low, to maintain the car is not cheap. It is important to remember that if this is your first Jaguar. I am sure more people will be around to help you make up your mind. Make sure to keep us updated on what you do.

 

well when i looked at blue book it was like 8500 for the good price..so im figuring to be paying middle blue book..the only extras it has is that it has a 6 disc cd changer...i also like the fact it has been properly maintained and it has such low miles...

 

I would never purchased an un-inspected jaguar.
especially the X from 2002. The first year of production = problems[]

 

it could have no problems too....

 

the 02 had a few quirks. not all but some. expect to fix these things: popped air vents, drive shaft, tranny, transfer case, dash air vents(they make noise, easy fix), and a few other things. Most of the items listed are small and easy to fix. The tranny is a big one. The low miles don't make a differance for the tranny. Now remember that these things might break and might not. There are alot of people on here with the 02' and have had no problems. I don't want to talk you out of the car... just want you to be prepared and informed. Any pics of the car? what color?

 

Definitely have it inspected by a competent service tech..this way you'll know one way or the other that there is no obvious problems....Also remember this MY is going on7 years old..All the fluids/lubes will all need changing to insure some more problem free miles...Think about it calmly..I know your have the fever now real bad..good luck

Yes i certainly do. It was just this past friday. I was in the garage i think twice that night looking at the car. I still find my self looking at it every now and then. I can't help but turn back when walking away in a parking lot. They sure are good looking cars.

Its black on black...so nice!!! I will try to get some more pictures...it got serviced back in feb with a regular oil change but they did an inspection on the car as well..she showed me the paper work...it needed new tires and a tweak with the alignment so that was also done to the car as well as the oil change...i thought the trany problems were only with the automatics??

Same interior as my 02. Definitely get it inspected man. It cost me about $250 for my inspection, its worth your time and money. Piece of mind. If you do go and get the inspection, just be ready for a sales guy to try and convince you to buy a newer X Type, while you are waiting.

 

well the thing is it was just inspected about 3 months ago from cole european when it was serviced and it has a warranty until mid june of this year..i was figuring even if i buy it now and get an inspection at the end of the month if there was any major problems i could have the warranty take care of it before it expires so basically if there is something wrong i have the warranty and if there isnt then its all good..its just that once i saw the car and drove it i want to have it now and to get an inspection i will have to find time between my finals for school and work and the owner would also and it just is a big inconvience at this moment and i really dont want to wait any longer since it has the warranty to fall back onto when i go get an inspection a few weeks from now when the car is already in my hands..i know im kinda rushing things but i feel in love when i first saw this car...

 

how will you know if there are any problems if you don't get it inspected? even if you have a warranty? it ill only take an hour or so to have the car inspected.

 

Better do it..why wait for a headache?

 

I got a 02 x 2.5 this past feb with a manual tranny and only 36K Km on mine and I paid $15K but then again I live in Canada where everything is expensive. I would spend the extra money because issues may not arise from now till June but after Juen is a whole different story. Seriousley judging fromt he fact ur buying a 02 jag I assume ur not the type of person who wants to be replacing all sort of things on your car, so spend the $250 and realistically waiting 4 or 5 days is not a big deal.
