Don't fear any year of x I'd just either make sure you get a warranty or allow for something to go wrong. Every car in the world has its problems. Even the mercury moutaineer I'm looking at everyone says stay away from anything 02 as it was the first year and get an 03 or 04. Honestly though every car in the world has its fair share of problems! If they didn't there would be no use for autoparts stores and companies manufacturing parts!

From experience with my Explorer, all you have to worry about with the 02 Explorers/Mountaineer is the rear end roar. Luckily, mine isn't too bad.

As far as X-Types, I wouldn't buy an auto unless you get a good warranty. Personally, I think it's a sin to have a sport sedan without a manual tranny .

Why wouldn't you buy a auto w/out warranty? Your clutch cost or would have cost just as much as a refurbed tranny!

Because I despise automatic trannies in sport sedans! Granted a clutch job with parts cost me about 1600, but I much rather have a brand new clutch with no worries than a remanufactured tranny that'll probably take a **** on me in 40,000 miles.

My opinion a clutch should keep you a lifetime, my opinion a guy changing his clutch before 400k miles I dont consider the best driver.

Who would plan on keeping your car that long except bo? Oh you!!!j/k

8200 for a one owner with 100k miles...once you add warranty which will be costly around 4k-5k with a deductible would be my guess...once you've spent that you might as well get one from a dealer for 14k or so...just a thought! When I looked for a warranty they wanted like 3-4k for a decent coverage with a $100 deductible and I only had 54k miles and nothing wrong...if you don't buy a warranty the 8200 might be worth it just save the money you'd spend on a warranty for repairs!

I'm going to excuse your ignorance, because you don't know any better.

Jason you should wait a few thousand miles in a car for that kind of opinion...or perhaps driven one for a while! Most clutches give out near 100k miles and some last for the lifetime of the car...all depends on the driver, use what kind of driving you do....besides most engines won't last past 200k miles! If your doing some highway driving you could get 300k out of the clutch as you won't be changing gears but how many people honestly do that?

400k miles on a clutch???[&:]
Man...I've been driving for like 25 years and done around 900k miles and had plenty of cars, but I've had clutches changes at like 96k miles and sometimes the cars went back with 160k miles on it and the clutch is still ok.....I must be a BAD driver[&:][&:]
At 17 -18 you must know so much more than me Jason.....thanks for the benefit of your years of experience mate...lol

Re the 02 with 109k miles on it for $8200....think about it mate. I swear look around, check Ebay and the like and you will get a much much sweeter deal than that.....They're out there, just gotta look.

Good luck

Jim

Here is what I have. I am going to let my wife drive my Jag occasionally and she does not know how to drive stick. So, I will sacrifice for AT since I don't mind.

I have found few warranty companies with 3-4 years bumper to bumper for 1799 - 3300. I do not believe this is a bad deal since I looked at the contract and what is covered.

No matter what you buy and drive, you are going to have some problems down the road. At least buying such known auto manufacturer with history prevents from that problem happening often and also, lot safer than any brand new tin can vehicles.

Teach her how to drive a manual! I can see your point though. I know most women wouldn't prefer to drive a manual, so I know you have to please the wife and keep the peace in the house.

I taught my fiance how to drive a manual and there's nothing more sexy than seeing her drive it. I taught her how to rev match and all, and it's just grrrrrrrrrrrrreat.

Yeah my wife doesn't mind driving manual either...her like I just can't see buying a jag only to not have it be automatic...kind of like I couldn't see having a jag w/out a leaper! That is my take on it but don't get me wrong I wouldn't mind having one of each! Having the jag and being auto makes me enjoy it more when I have my escape with a stick. Hey adrian who did you find a warranty for 1799??? I looked and I only had 54000 miles and couldn't find one for less than 3k and I checked many places! What kind of deductible, coverage and length of coverage was it?

Well I think of automatic when I think of Jag or Benz. Just cause they are mostly about luxury. Now the BMW I'm getting soon...that I think of Manuals.
