Default A/C Compressor Replacement?

Hello, I am not familiar with the jaguar engine nor have I taken a look at the engine. A friend has an 2002 Jaguar X-Type. She has been told that the AC compressor is draining her battery. The AC com needs replaced at a cost of over 2k by Firestone tech. My question is : can the AC comp belt be removed without harming the engine? Not sure if 2 belts or one separate on the compressor. Any help would be appreciated.

A NEW compressor, dryer, and filter is less than $250; a condensor is around $100, if needed. A competent tech with the correct tools can swap the entire system in under 3 hours, and most of that is pulling off fender wells and the underside of the front bumper. At retail, the job should be half of that.

No, the computer does NOT like the A/C to be disconnected. The best way to use the climate control in our cars is to set it to auto, set your temperature, and forget about it.

At any rate, the COMPRESSOR will not drain the battery; the relay that locks the clutch will open up, and disconnect the clutch. If it sticks closed, disconnect the wiring plug from the compressor or pull the ac clutch fuse, then shop around for a real mechanic to repair the system, instead of a parts-changer from a major retailer.

The fuse block diagram can be found toward the front of the wiring diagram for your model. They're available free from JITS or at Gus' site JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

You should be able to just unplug the electrical clutch connector on the compressor to stop it from working.
This has about the same amount effecting the battery as the cow who jumped over the moon.

The hardest thing is going to find a good mechanic. This last poor fellow has hit his head to many times…
