A/C Question
My air conditioning works. It's ice cold. Good thing since I live in Florida. But when it's on the air blows furiously through the center vents but almost nothing comes out of the side vents. Do I have a blockage or is this the Jag way?
It's certainly not the Jaguar way!! Each of the four outlets has its own shut off flap, operated by its own ridged thumbwheel (Sorry if you know that - just starting from the basics!). If you shut off the centre flaps and open the side ones, what happens then?
'Fraid not, Disguay! All the main flaps are situated low down in the vent distribution system. For the face vents, a single main trunk leads up to the centre, just behind the two centre vents, then two branch trunks lead off, at that level, across to each of the side vents. The outer section of each side flap - the little ones directed at the side windows - are fed separately from the windscreen vents, that are in turn fed from another main, vertical trunk behind the one feeding the face vents.
Have you checked with a torch to see if the control flap on each face vent actually opens when the thumbwheel is operated - there are weak points in the linkage to them! Trouble is to remove the passenger side vent, the airbag has to be taken out and for the driver's side, the instrument panel surround must be removed. Then, both vents are held in place by two screws.

The thumb wheels do work though because when I close them it goes from a trickle to nothing.
