Default Can anything other than tie rods cause this...

2002 Xtype 2.5 manual 166k mi on the odo.

Right front wheel has a TON of play when lifted off the ground and rocked at 3 and 9 o'clock.

12 and 6 are rock solid.

Feels just like a tie rod but is tons worse and the tie rod seems to not be moving, like it is the pivot point.

The whole hub/spindle assy is moving as a unit.

I just put on a new axle and control arm because looking at it when I rocked it there was a lot of movement at the ball joint. No change.

When I spin the wheel I don't hear any noise from the wheel bearing.

oops....the new ball joint needed to set deeper than the factory one on the driver side. Now that the thing is seated deep enough and the pinch is tight the play is gone. Looks like it was the ball joint all along.
