I was driving and all of a sudden my radio went off, wipers stopped, lights dimmed while car still running and battery light came on and then it stopped. It took a jump and then would not start again until next say and it died again but takes jumps. I have 03 x type manual 2.5 6 cyl...I was thinking alternator. .

burton, I would first start with a battery check. If that is good, then I would next look at the battery cables and the ground cables running between the motor and body. IF those develop a high resistance (0.1 ohm or more), that can lead to what you are seeing too. Only then would I be going after the alternator. The alternators in these cars seem to be pretty solid and normally not the source of most problems.
If you need help with your backup issue, let me know. I am an hour south of you in California, MD. We can get you taken care of and get things back to 100%.

Hello all! Long time no post! I have a similar situation, my battery died on Sunday and I replaced it with a brand new one. The Jag started up perfectly fine and I drove it around town with no issues, however when I was almost home at a stoplight, my car lost power (radio and instrument cluster worked fine). I started it up again and all was fine. I also drove it later that night with no issues - started up with no problems.
Monday morning comes around, it turns over right away - however when the RPM's go back down to zero, the car almost dies but then idles normally. It did the same thing when I left work at night.
This morning as I'm leaving for work, it starts and turns over right away, but this time as the RPM's go back to zero, it died. I tired 3 times to start and it died each time. On the 4th try, I gave it a little gas after I started the car and it idled normally and I was able to get to work.
What do you think is the problem? Checked all the fuses and they're good. It's a 2002 Jaguar X-Type 3.0 with 149,800 miles.
Thanks in advance for the help!

gotti, from the sounds of things, you have 1 of 2 issues. You either have a bad Idle Air Control valve (IAC Valve) or the throttlebody is sticking and therefore the car can not control the air flow properly. What I would tell you to do is to get yourself a can of "throttlebody cleaner" (NOT!!!!!!! carb cleaner) and then remove the intake hose off the front of the throttlebody. Then using the straw, spray the inside of the throttle body really good and spray away any brown that you may see. Make sure to use your finger to open the silver plate that is blocking the incoming air and to spray the edge of that disk to clean it up too. Odds are, doing this is going to flood the car. Do not worry. Depress the gas pedal to the floor and hold it there as you crank the engine over. ONce the motor catches, then you can ease up off the gas to keep it running. Lets see what you have then.
One thing that I forgot to mention is to take a look at the throttle body and if you see a small port/hole on the front side of the disk, make sure to squirt the throttlebody cleaner down that hole. Worst case, you can spray some of the cleaner on to a rag and then use your hand to wipe the surfaces.
I think you will find that this is going to fix your problem.

Good afternoon,
I've checked on the suggestions for my problems with the car, but now looking for someone close by to assist with actually solving my problems and getting vehicle back on the road, as stated the issues are the back up lights not working and the issues of the car just running and everything dying and going off, maybe a wiring lose or alternator,, thanks
