Default car slides/sways : REAR CONTROL ARMS?

2003 x type 2.5 auto rear wheels tend to lean in from the top on both sides. the left is more servere than the right. tire wear is extremely noticeable from the inside. MOST NOTABLE is that the car slides whenever driving around curves, or hits a bump or speed in excess of 30 mph.

ANY ANY advice would be greatful. Am more concern about what causes the sliding or swaying of the car. As a result the anti skid lights comes on and stays on . I believe the car was in a previous accident.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GRATELY APPRECIATED. i HAVE DONE A TON OF READING. But i just need a starting point before i can start trouble shooting. Pics/diagrams would be most helpful in helping me identify the parts. There are no "official jaguar dealers here in the Bahamas. Also any recommendations on a good jaguar scan and erase tool.

thanks much

Do you have rear shocks? From cab rides I think they're quite optional in the Caribbean.

Hopefully you have an alignment shop near you that can tell you what is wrong.

satwarez, you are describing the exact problems I had with my car. You need to replace both lower, forward control arms in the rear end of the car. They are $100 each through Nalley Jag. To replace them, you lift the tire off of the ground, remove the tire, remove the 2 bolts holding the arm in place, remove the old arm and then reverse the process with the new arm. Pretty easy to do. The hardest part of the whole project is going to be breaking the 2 bolts loose (gotta love salt covered roads). I ended up cutting one of my bolts apart and then installing a new grade 8 bolt in its place.

Don't forget to get an alignment done after you are all done. The toe will be way out and will lead to rapid tire wear. This may be a good time to do the upper arms too since you will have the tire off. But, that is another $100 an arm or so.

the outer end of these joints (the one with the rubber bushing - not the swivel joint) must be tightened with the car on the ground, best to roll it back and forward a feet after lowering it. If you tighen them with the car jacked up, the bushing will be in the wrong position, and stressed when the car is driving on level road = early failure.

Hey Guys,
I have a 2003 X-Type with the same issues. Thermo is right on, it's exactly what it was with mine too. The link is kind of round and in the shape of a lightning bolt. The bushing on the side that links into the trailing arm can move slightly left to right, and when it's good it re-centers itself. When it isn't, it causes the issues you're describing.

Joopster, Nalley Jag is a Jaguar dealership down in Georgia. If you look at the list of advertisers here, you will see them listed or you can visit their site by going to http://www.nalleyjaguar.com. Don't forget to mention the site to get your discount.

@ Thermo thanks a billion. bought the new lower rear foward arm and replace the old one. car drives like a dream. however it was like hell trying to break the nuts. as a matter of fact i drove the car to the machine shop . they cut the bolt and "red heat" it with a torch to get it off. cost me $120.00 . i can finally enjoy the ride. thanks guys
